"THE LETTER LADY" has her hat on and is on her way to hear a new Voice and to write a new letter. Here is how it all got started...

Dear Friend,

I remember one visit in particular during my Father's last days in Hospice care. The small event of walking in his room to find his Hospice nurse had just shaved off his beard broke my heart. The nurse said in a sweet voice "I cleaned  that scraggly beard". I thought about my mother struggling with Alzheimer's disease and how she always touched his beard and smiled on their rare visits. I knew the nurse meant to be kind but still...

My father looked up blankly and a tear rolled quietly down his cheek. He knew I thought to myself. It was another loss along the way home. The nurse was a temp. filling in...
 She did not know him.

After my parents suffering ended, I got to thinking that those kind of events happen all too often. It happens sometimes people loose their "vote" when we get too sick to have our own voice. It is often not feasible for family and friends to be present 24x7 when someone is ill.

I thought to myself that as a nurse years ago there were care plans and physicians orders and treatment teams but still there seemed to be something missing.

That realization lead to the inception 'The Self Inventory'. 'The Self Inventory' is not therapy, it isn't a treatment modality it is just a very human instrument. The values of people who are loosing their voice in this life deserve a beautiful communication vehicle. It took awhile to construct this versatile instrument , it can be easy and effective.

We can take this "Self Inventory" and convert it into a beautiful document into a "Letter". This one page "Letter"  can help caregivers "Hear" the peferences of people in their care. This is not a legal document rather this is simply a lovely reflection from someone who may not feel up to chatting. This self generated "Letter" can be available 24x7 on a bedside or kept by a friend.

This "Self Inventory" is also employed in
"The Ambassadors of Hope" workshop.
